What is ELAC?

The English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a group of parents and teachers working to meet the needs of our second language learners. This committee strives to keep our parents informed, giving them the opportunity to express on issues that affect them and their students at Twin Oaks. Good communication and participation equals better involvement and greatly increases the chances of success in the academic environment of students. The objectives of the committee are to educate parents in matters having to do with the educational system in this country and to stress the importance of a student's daily attendance.

State and Federal education laws require districts that have 50 or more English learners to form a committee for the purpose of dealing with matters relevant to their needs. And schools with 20 or more English Learners are required to establish a Committee at the school site.

ELAC groups must meet at least 4 times a year. TOES' committee meets every month.

All meetings are conducted in Spanish. Different Topics are covered at each meeting.
