ARRIVAL and PICK UP

CHILDREN SHOULD NEVER ARRIVE AT SCHOOL BEFORE 8:15 AM.
When students arrive, they should drop off their lunches and backpacks in the designated area on the blacktop, then proceed directly to the playground area. Breakfast is served from 8:15 - 8:45 am.

FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES WHEN DROPPING OFF YOUR CHILD(REN):
Upon entering the driveways continue moving forward in the designated lanes. Students may exit and enter the vehicle when the vehicle has come to a complete stop within the loading and unloading zones. Do not use the church parking lot in the morning or in the afternoon for drop off or pick up. Please do not leave your car parked in the pick-up lane.

FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES WHEN PICKING UP YOUR CHILD(REN):
The Twin Oaks Elementary School regular daily schedule ends at 3:10 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Unless your child is enrolled in an after school program, he/she must be picked up by 3:25. Because Wednesdays are early release days, students must be picked up by 2:25 PM.

Students who have not been picked up by this time will be brought into the office. A parent or person listed on the emergency card must come into the office and sign out any child remaining at school after 3:45 PM. The school office closes at 4:00 PM. If a student has not been picked up by the time the office staff leaves, the San Diego County Sheriff's office will hold the child at the Sheriff's station located at 182 Santar Place, San Marcos. Their phone number is 760-510-5200.

On a regular basis, we have over 200 cars picking up students each day. Even with the best system, there will be some waiting. Please be patient and understand that we are working to make the process as safe and efficient as possible. Carpooling is strongly encouraged.

If you would like to get out of your car and meet your child(ren), you must arrive early enough to find a parking spot. You may park in the front or back parking lots or at the agricultural farm adjacent to the school on Cassou Rd. Do not park in the parent pick-up or drop-off lane, or in areas that will prevent the buses from getting in or out. Do not park and leave your car, or double park in the traffic lane.

BIKE RIDERS / SKATEBOARDERS

Bicycle riders are expected to follow rules of safety to and from school. These rules include:

  • One person on a bike
  • Bikes should be walked on school premises, sidewalks, and in the parking lot area
  • Bikes must be parked in racks and locked
  • Do not ride bikes on rainy days
  • Bike riders must wear a helmet - it's the law! Students who do not wear helmets will not be allowed to ride home. Parents/Guardians will be called.

Skateboards are not allowed at Twin Oaks Elementary at any time. Students should not wear shoes equipped with wheels such as Heelys to schools.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS/PHONE NUMBER

If you should have a change in your address, phone number, or emergency phone numbers please notify the office immediately. In the event your child becomes ill or is injured, authorized persons must be able to be contacted.

CHANGE OF DISMISSAL PLANS

Your child will be sent home directly after school. If changes in the normal routine are requested, a written note from the parent is necessary. There is no provision for children to play on campus after class dismissal. Students are expected to go directly home after class dismissal.

COMMUNICATION FOLDER

The Communication Folder, also known as the "Wednesday Envelope," contains important information from the school and your child's teacher and will be sent home on Wednesdays. Please take the time to look at the material inside and sign and return the envelope to school on Thursday. Some flyers are shared digitally with Twin Oaks families through the Peach Jar service.

EARLY CHECK-OUT

If you need to take your child out of school early, please check in at the office first. The office staff will call your child to the office and you will be asked to sign your child out and present your license or I.D.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

A disaster plan, procedures, and drills have been designed and are rehearsed on a regular basis to ensure the safety of all students in the event of a disaster or emergency. Emergency containers are located in each classroom.

LOST AND FOUND

Children should have their belongings labeled and accept responsibility for them. Labeling is important since so many clothing articles are identical. Lost and found clothing articles are kept in the cafeteria and may be claimed by students or parents. Small and valuable items are kept in the office.
