Other Ideas that parent may want to try:
-
It can help children with ADHD to have daily checklists that help them keep track of what they need to do.
-
Break homework into 10 to 15 minute chunks of time (use a timer) with a 5 to 10 minute break.
-
When giving instructions, just give one instruction at a time.
-
Allow more time for task completion.
-
Any changes in routine warn the child in advance and help them prepare through discussion and role-playing.
-
Having a fidget toy (something to squeeze) but sometimes students use the toy inappropriately so the use of the fidget has to be controlled and not be something that is easily torn apart.
-
When having rewards and consequences for behavior, it should be daily or immediate rather than something to anticipate in the future (with ADHD children they often lose interest otherwise.)
